Clinical judgement you can use on Monday morning
This is not a survey of orthodontic theory. Each session works through the decisions you actually face in the chair with a growing patient.
Read the records that change the plan
Work through panoramic, cephalometric and intraoral series looking for the specific findings that alter treatment — and learn to stop chasing the ones that do not.
Time intervention to skeletal age, not birthdays
Judge when to intervene, when to monitor and when waiting is the stronger clinical decision, using growth indicators rather than the calendar.
Manage the mixed dentition with intent
Diagnose and treat posterior crossbite, anterior crossbite, ectopic eruption and arch-length deficiency while growth is still on your side.
Choose between expansion, maintenance and extraction
Apply a consistent framework for selecting appliances and sequencing space management, with the reasoning you would want on the record.
Handle Class II and Class III growth patterns

About Dr. Keith Wilkerson
Dr. Keith Wilkerson has spent more than thirty years treating children — and much of that time working out how to guide the growing dentition rather than wait and refer. That work became Dual Arch Orthopedics, the technique he developed and published in the Journal of the American Orthodontic Society in March/April 2013.
The Journal returned to it the following year, running the work as the cover feature of its Fall 2014 issue.
He has also spent over a decade teaching it. Among other roles, he was an instructor for the Academy of GP Orthodontics' twelve-session hands-on course in early orthodontic treatment, training practising dentists to bring this care into their own operatories.

Taking Dr. Wilkerson's early intervention course completely changed the way I evaluate young patients. Orthodontics was no longer just about placing brackets on teeth — it became about diagnosis, growth, and development. He shares the techniques that work best as well as the mistakes he's made and the lessons he's learned.
